Cultivation of Okra

Okra/Bhendi/Lady Finger:
Climate: Okra love warm moist (25C to 30C). Don't love cool or very low temperatures. But it can sustain low temperatures. Requires warm climate and humidity to grow rigorously.It can be grown throughout year except in winter in India.
Soil: Loves well drained soils like sandy loam,clay loam soils with high percentage of organic matter. Give high yeilds in soils which have pH 6.5 to 7.5( slight acidic to near neutral is best 7 pH).Can adopt in wide range of soils. pH is not a problem for growing okra.
Seed: Approx 5 -10 kg per acre seed required in general.In Summer up 8-10kg per acre seed required.More plants on rain-fed,less plants on irrigation. 21780-43560 plants required per acre.Select virus free and disease free  a seeds from farmer. Soak seeds overnight before planting because of seed shell hardness.Approx seed germination time is 7 days.

Cultivation of Musk Melon

Climate: Musk Melon love light warm moist (21 C to 35 C) conditions. Don't love cool or very low temperatures.Requires warm climate and humidity to grow rigorously.High temperature and sunshine produce melon high in sugar contents. Though sweetness and fine flavor are hereditary characteristics, yet they are greatly influenced by environmental condition. If Temperature is above 32 C at flowering stage, flowers will not turn to fruit.
Soil: Loves well drained soils like sandy loam soils with high percentage of organic matter. Give high yields in soils which have pH 6 to 6.8( slight acidic to near neutral).Can adopt in wide range of soils when provided with good drainage facility.
Seed: Approx 1 kg per acre seed required. Approx 10000 plants required per acre,.Select virus free and disease free  seeds from farmer. Approx seed germination time is 3-5 days.

Cucumber : There are wide verities of cucumbers exist but most popular is salad cucumber and lemon cucumber. Lemon cucumber also called as sambar cucumber in South India. Climate: Cucumber love light warm moist (16 C to 32 C). At 25 C Cucumber plant thrives well. Don't love cool or very low temperatures.Requires warm climate and humidity to grow rigorously.
Soil: Loves well drained soils like sandy loam soils with high percentage of organic matter. Give high yields in soils which have pH 6 to 7.1( slight acidic to near neutral is best 7 pH).Can adopt in wide range of soils and tolerate moderate levels of acidic soil when provided with good drainage facility.

As I am in less rainfall area. I preferred to go with Pulses, like red gram, green gram, black gram with intercropping of Millets

Sowing time:

Kharif : June,July
Rabi : Sep 15 to Oct 15

Seed rate
2-3kgs (Kharif) / 6-8 kgs(Rabi season)

Seed spacing
150*20 cm or 180*20 cm

Duration
160-180 days (Kharif) / 120-125 days (Rabi)

Soil: 
Saline soils/ water clogging soils avoid... Rest of the Soils are fine.

Yield: 
6-8 Quintals / 5-6 Quintals.

Inter-crops:
Less duration crops like Green gram, Black gram, Groundnut., Millets like Finger millet, Pearl millet, Foxtail millet. Popular and regular intercrop are Red gram + cotton

But we can't predict how many male/female come out of seeds.Better idea is going with tubers or plant stems 1210-3630 plants required per acre, 10% should be taken from male plants that is male tubers or stem cuttings required.Select virus free and disease free a seeds or tubers or stems from farmer.
